Citalopram - after a week free.
In a nutshell. So far so good.
I'm a week into being Citalopram free and it's different coming off it than I thought it would be.
I all honesty, I think I underestimated how hard it would be, and with hindsight, I'd have done what many do, and alternate it, one day on, one day off. Now however I feel committed to doing it this way, but I am conscious some of these side effects may last another week or so.
Besides the complete and utter emotional car crash that was Tuesday, most of the other effects have been much more tolerable. I did have a wave of anger on Monday. A minor niggle that became a rage in my head, although I appeared calm, inside I was furious. It didn't last though, and by the evening, the issue was resolved, and I was calm again.
Besides this I've had two frequent weird phenomenon that I'll attempt to describe and a one off (I hope).
The first is the easiest of the two to describe; dizziness. It's pretty much constant, and it's quite tiresome. Sometimes pleasant, (feels like an odd high) but always perturbing when it happens. Quick movements, standing up, looking left or right, it's like my head is on a spring. I'm hoping the sensation goes away before too long, but at the moment, it's giving me a 'distant from reality' sensation. Several days on and it's manifested into a headache, could be nothing, might even be the hot weather and higher pressure. But the dizziness is almost certainly a side effect of the 'withdrawal'?
The second is much harder to describe and it may have something to do with my high blood pressure (another side effect of the citalopram)?
Now I'm pretty certain I don't suffer with tinnitus, but the sensation I'm experiencing has white noise associated with it. I can hear whistling and also, my head feels tight. In a quiet room, obviously the noise seems far more loud. At night, it's very noticeable.
Sporadically this noise and tightness intensifies. There will be a 3-4 throbbing sensations across the skull and the noise will whoosh, in sync. This is usually at the same time as the dizzy spells, but it feels like my head could pop.
I found this - it's almost exactly like this only faster (speed 1.5x is very close)... https://youtu.be/RZl629V9_Vw?t=77
Besides that I had an episode trying to get to sleep where I went very cold and shivery. I also felt nauseous, but it only lasted half an hour. After putting a T-Shirt on (I don't usually sleep in T-Shirts) I soon warmed up and I was able to nod off.
I know, you could say "just cold", it wasn't, it was worse than that, more intense, but it wasn't long and it wasn't particularly harrowing.
Besides that, everything seems normal. I am still taking the vitamin B3. My research into the benefits have convinced me it's something I should probably fix long term with my diet (but Kale - please it's guinea pig food) until then, I'll stick with the supplements.
We used some wine in last nights cooking, and I didn't touch anything that wasn't in the sauce (although I did use loads - haha).
I've also been looking into Zero alcohol beers and there's a whole expensive world to explore, some of which are getting very good reviews.
For now - all seems well.
